I'm wondering if it would look better without the whispy colors (the light blue and teals) or if I should somehow darken them up a little bit.

I don't have photoshop, so if anyone has the ghetto alternative, that would be awsome.

They look good, lots of attention to detail. Strictly speaking they are not fractals because a fractal is an image created from complex math formulas. I will be posting a fractal feature around the 20th of this month so stay tuned to the digital gallery front pages for that. I am going to break down what makes a fractal and why the strict classification they have. It's similar to vector art, it has a very narrow description that makes it what it is. In the meantime you might want to check out ~chilledsashel. He has some hand drawn geometric patterns that are really incredible. Might give you some ideas and motivation towards your own work.
